New developments for the Guercif-Nador highway
The construction work on the highway connecting Guercif to the future Nador West Med port is progressing at a steady pace. This strategic 105-kilometer project, estimated at 7.9 billion dirhams, aims to open up the Oriental region by 2028.
The project is divided into three segments: Guercif–Saka, Saka–Driouch, and Driouch–Nador West Med. The section closest to Nador is currently the most advanced, with a completion rate exceeding 50%, while the launch of the central section is awaiting the imminent selection of service providers.
Once operational, this infrastructure will reduce travel time to approximately 45 minutes, creating a vital artery between the Oriental region and the national logistics networks. This project is designed as a catalyst for socio-economic development, facilitating trade exchanges via the major maritime hub of Nador West Med.
The overall investment of 7.9 billion dirhams is based on public financing complemented by international cooperation. In December 2023, the African Development Bank mobilized 246 million euros to support regional connectivity and promote the creation of new local economic opportunities.
The full opening of the highway is scheduled for 2028. According to the Moroccan Motorway Company (ADM), the sustained progress of the work guarantees the delivery of this strategic axis intended to connect the region to major international maritime routes.
