Morocco's 105km Guercif-Nador Highway Project Progresses, Set for 2028 Completion

The National Company of Motorways of Morocco (ADM) is actively working on the construction of the Guercif-Nador Highway, a major project for the Oriental region that connects the Nador West Med port to the national highway network.

The construction of the 105 km long Guercif-Nador Highway, divided into three main sections Guercif-Saka (36.5 km), Saka - Driouch (40.5 km) and Driouch-Nador (27 km), is progressing normally. This new structural axis, scheduled for completion in 2028, comprises a total of eight work packages. Section 3, located in Nador and extending over 27 km, is divided into two lots and shows a 50% completion rate by the end of 2025, ADM tells Médias24.

Regarding the second section (divided into three lots), between Saka and Driouch, ADM has launched a call for expressions of interest and nine companies out of eleven have been prequalified to participate in the work. These are Staport SA (Morocco), Société Bioui Travaux (Morocco), SGTM-Sinohydro Bureau Group (Morocco/China), Mojazine Group (Morocco), NGE Contracting/CAPEP Group (Morocco/Morocco), Les Grands Travaux Routiers (Morocco), SSMT SARL (Morocco), CWE-FHCC Group (China/China) and China Road and Bridge Corporation (China). These companies have expressed interest in the three lots: lot 2-1: from PK0+000 to PK14+600; lot 2-2: from PK14+600 to PK26+000 and lot 2-3 from PK26+000 to PK40+462.

The start of these works will only be effective after the final selection of the awarded companies. However, preparations are advancing. In a statement to MAP, Ilyasse El Moueden, representative of the National Company of Motorways of Morocco, said that the clearance of the road right-of-way is already completed for the first two sections, thus facilitating rapid intervention by future contractors. The entire highway axis will include four strategic interchanges. The construction of the Guercif-Nador highway will help open up the northeastern region of Morocco and ensure connectivity with the new Nador West-Med port. Its cost is estimated at at least 7.9 billion dirhams.
