Morocco Launches Tender for Second Phase of Guercif-Nador Highway Project

The work on the Guercif-Nador motorway is progressing normally. The Ministry of Equipment and Transport, which is the project owner, has launched a call for tenders for the realization of the second phase.

The Guercif-Nador motorway project is advancing. On Thursday, the Ministry of Equipment and Transport launched a call for tenders for the realization of the second phase of the Guercif-Nador motorway project, which concerns the Saka-Driouch section, 40.5 kilometers long. Bidders are invited to submit their files no later than September 23, 2024.

The Guercif-Nador motorway will connect the city of Nador and the new port of Nador West Med to the national motorway network, over a total length of 104 km. It is divided into three main phases: Guercif-Saka (36.5 kilometers), Saka-Driouch (40.5 kilometers) and Driouch-Nador West Mediterranean (27.2 kilometers). The motorway will be built in the form of a 2x2 lane carriageway with a 2.50 meter emergency lane, in addition to the construction of major infrastructure including six bridges, 46 culverts, an interchange at Saka and 18 restorations.

The cost of the project is estimated at 7.4 billion dirhams, all taxes included. Partly financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB), the motorway will connect the cities of Guercif and Nador in only 1h30, compared to 3 hours currently, thus helping to streamline traffic and reduce accidents on this very busy road axis.
