Marrakech–Fès–Errachidia: a new highway set to reshape Morocco by 2030

Included in the National Highway Network Plan (SAAN), this route is considered an “essential link” in the major transversal highway connecting Safi to Tanger. The technical and environmental studies, whose initial cost was estimated at nearly 8 million dirhams, have helped define the optimal route between Béni Mellal and the Fès-Meknès bipolar urban area.

This project is not merely a simple extension in kilometers. It responds to a national traffic restructuring need:

• Decongesting RN8: Historically saturated, National Road 8 no longer met safety and traffic-flow needs. The highway will now take over this Safi-Marrakech-Béni Mellal-Fès/Meknès route.

• Integrating the Southeast: Serving Errachidia directly connects Tafilalet with the economic hubs of the North and Centre. This link will transform the city into a major logistics hub for the Saharan provinces.

• Industrial lever: By connecting the agricultural areas of Beni Mellal with the industrial basins of Fès and Meknès, the infrastructure will mechanically reduce transport costs, thereby increasing the competitiveness of regional exports.

The project is based on a series of financial profitability and environmental impact studies designed to ensure optimal traffic operations. This section must provide smooth continuity toward the north of the country, thereby strengthening the logistical competitiveness of the Kingdom’s central and eastern provinces.
