Morocco: a new highway to connect Tangier and Tetouan, construction to begin in 2027

This initiative aims to provide an alternative to the N2 national road, which is currently the main axis between the two cities and whose capacity has been exceeded, with travel times that can exceed an hour and a half during peak hours. The project will be developed through a partnership between the State and the National Motorway Company of Morocco. While the technical and environmental studies are scheduled for next year, the actual start of construction is projected for 2027, subject to obtaining the final financing.

An estimated investment of 6 billion dirhams

The challenge of this new connection goes beyond the simple fluidity of passenger traffic. It is designed to strengthen the logistics dynamics related to the Tanger Med port and facilitate access to the booming tourist areas, such as the Tamuda coast. The highway will thus offer a faster and more secure route for both freight carriers and visitors.

Although the financial structure has not yet been officially finalized, sources close to the project estimate the approximate cost at 6 billion dirhams. This significant amount is due to the complexity of the terrain and the need to build several crossing structures. This project is part of the national desire to extend the motorway network, with a priority on strengthening connectivity in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region.
