Schools Face Uncertainty as COVID-19 Surge Threatens In-Person Learning for 2021-2022

Scheduled for September 3, the 2021-2022 school year leaves many uncertainties about the form of teaching in public and private high schools and middle schools. Distance or face-to-face, for now, all eyes are on the government.

Faced with the vigorous resurgence of the Covid-19 epidemic, will the Ministry of National Education impose distance learning again this year? The newspaper Assabah believes that the ministry will leave the choice to parents to opt for the form they desire, provided they expressly request it.

In this sense, a mechanism will be established to allow families to make their choice. Drastic measures will be imposed on schools in the event of face-to-face, the newspaper specifies, adding that the evolution of the health situation by the start of the school year, but above all the degree of compliance with preventive measures by the establishments, will be a determining factor for this choice.

In other words, even if it is the parents who will decide between face-to-face and distance learning, the latter can be instituted later after the start of the school year in establishments where a focus of contamination emerges or if it is impossible to comply with all preventive measures.

In addition, several establishments could impose the health pass in the event of face-to-face to reassure parents, which will make vaccination mandatory for students and the teaching staff, the newspaper reports, announcing that provisions are being made at the level of the health authorities, to expand vaccination to children and adolescents aged between 12 and 17 in the very near future.
