Safi: the mayor secretly builds a garage, outrage grows

The president of the urban commune of Asfi has built an underground garage for his two-story house under construction in the Miftah Al Rahma neighborhood, without prior authorization, causing outrage and anger among residents and human rights defenders.
The backfilling work for the garage of the president’s house was supervised by the district commander and authority agents, police officers, public forces and urban planning officials from the prefecture, reports Al Youm 24.
Residents and human rights defenders have filed several complaints about this construction, which has prompted the provincial governor to send a joint commission composed of representatives from the prefecture, the urban agency, the independent water and electricity distribution agency, the municipality and the local authorities to the site.
In its report, the commission confirmed that the garage was built without authorization, in violation of the regulations in force on urban planning and development. For its part, the Moroccan Association for Human Rights has called on the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, to take legal action against the president of the commune for this shortcoming.
