Royal Palace Jewelry Theft Ring Busted: 25 Accused, Including Police Officer

25 people are being prosecuted in the case of the theft of highly valuable jewelry from the royal palace. The mastermind of the operations, a woman would be responsible for the theft and fencing of the goods that she was selling at low prices in Rabat and Casablanca.
Several individuals from different cities of the kingdom, including an intelligence officer at the Marrakech police prefecture, were brought before the Attorney General at the Court of Appeal of Rabat, last weekend.
The accused were taken by the elements of the Royal Gendarmerie to the Larjat prison around 6:30 pm, for aggravated theft, breach of trust, fencing, disclosure of professional secrecy and attempted fraud.
According to the lawyers of the accused, the next hearings will be devoted to requests for provisional release in favor of the detainees, in particular the intelligence officer, who was wrongly implicated in the case, and whose trial coincided with the death of his father.
