Interpol Arrests Jordanian Suspect in King Mohammed VI Watch Theft Case

New twist in the case of the theft of King Mohammed VI’s watches. Interpol arrested and handed over a Jordanian national, accused of receiving stolen goods and theft, to the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ).
The National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ) brought the Jordanian national before the public prosecutor to answer the charges against him, reports Al Akhbar. Although he was aware of the origin of the watches, the defendant nevertheless bought them from two young Moroccans. They are part of the 15 people sentenced to various sentences by a Rabat court.
In total, they had sold four of the stolen watches to the Jordanian national in Istanbul, for several hundred thousand dirhams. These resellers, specialized in the gold trade, who are actually fences, had bought these four watches, sold with the others, stolen from jewelers in Rabat, Salé, Casablanca and other cities.
The main suspect in this case of theft of the sovereign’s watches is a 46-year-old cleaning lady who worked in one of Mohammed VI’s palaces. She stole 36 luxury watches belonging to the sovereign, with the complicity of her boyfriend. Then she had them melted down as raw material, before reselling them to jewelers. In court, she and her accomplice were sentenced to the same sentence, 15 years in prison. The 13 other individuals were sentenced to a minimum of four years in prison.
With the referral to the public prosecutor, a new trial opened on Friday, January 24, as part of this case.
