Royal Air Maroc to Lease Five Boeing 737s in $300 Million Deal

As part of the implementation of its development plan, Royal Air Maroc (RAM) is preparing to lease five Boeing 737s from Air Lease Corporation (ALC) for an amount of $300 million. The aircraft are expected to be delivered in 2024.

The American company, one of the leaders in long-term aircraft leasing, announced the information in a press release published on Wednesday. "We look forward to building our long-term relationship with RAM as it continues to modernize its fleet, develop its network and maximize its competitive advantage with the most fuel-efficient aircraft in the market," said Steven F. Udvar-Hàzy, CEO of ALC, quoted in the note.

For Abdelhamid Addou, CEO of RAM, this long-term lease contract for five Boeing 737s, including four new Boeing 737-8s and one Boeing 737-800, will allow the Moroccan national airline to strengthen and modernize its fleet and "continuously improve the quality of service for our customers, while reducing our carbon footprint, in line with our environmental commitment."

More than a month ago, the CEO of RAM had announced a consultation for the acquisition of ten aircraft, including seven Boeing 737 Max and three Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. The company plans to quadruple its fleet by 2037, from 60 to 200 aircraft. This is not the first time that ALC has provided its services to RAM. The American had provided a Boeing 737-800 to the national company in early July 2017, as part of a long-term lease contract.
