Royal Air Maroc Unveils $25 Billion Fleet Expansion Plan, Aims for 200 Aircraft by 2030

Royal Air Maroc plans to invest nearly $25 billion to strengthen its fleet and move from around 50 aircraft currently to 200 aircraft by 2030.
The Moroccan royal airline wants to acquire wide-body and medium-body aircraft, announced its CEO, Abdelhamid Addou, indicating that a call for tenders will be launched to this effect before the end of the year. Royal Air Maroc aims to move from 50 to 200 aircraft, "that is to say an average of 15 aircraft per year, which is a lot for us, but we are very confident in our ability to achieve this objective," he explained.
"We will knock on the door of all our partners, banks and large companies to finance these agreements," Addou added. The company currently only has Boeing and could buy Airbus, according to Hadi Akoum, Airbus’ vice president of sales for Africa. With this development plan, Royal Air Maroc is positioning itself as a leader in North Africa and a connection point between Europe and West Africa, several analysts estimate.
The airline has the support of the Moroccan government, which decided last July to increase the company’s capital until 2037. In 2019, the airline’s capital was around $370 million, of which more than 98% belonged to the State. Since 2020, the state’s share has reached nearly 6 billion dirhams (less than $600 million).
