Rising Star Bilal El Khannouss Reveals Why He Left Anderlecht for Genk

More than three years after leaving Anderlecht for Racing Club Genk, Moroccan international Bilal El Khannouss returns in more detail to the reason for this departure that some media have described as "premature".
At the age of 18, the Moroccan player, who received the 2022 Talent of the Year award a few days ago, said in an interview that he left Anderlecht because the club’s officials had difficulty offering him a clear plan for the future. For the Belgian-Moroccan attacking midfielder, it was necessary for him to take his destiny into his own hands in order not to waste time. Bilal El Khannouss joined the current league leader because of the importance placed on him, but also because he saw potential for his career, reports RTBF.
Today, with a first World Cup participation alongside the Moroccan national football team and a distinction in his club, he thinks he was right to take his future into his own hands very early on. "In my life, I’ve always worked that way: you have to go where people believe in you and where you’re used to your true value. I thought about it, for a very long time even, then I came to Genk, who had been following me for a long time and who had a project for me. I don’t hold anything against anyone, because it was my decision: that’s probably how things were supposed to happen," he said.
Presented as a versatile player, Bilal El Khannouss seems destined for a great career due to his potential and great technical qualities. Signs that prompted Walid Regragui to call him up for the 2022 Qatar World Cup, a few days after his decision to play for Morocco instead of Belgium.
