Rif Activist Faces Alleged Mistreatment in Moroccan Prison, Rights Group Claims

The inhuman treatment suffered in the cell in Salé 2 by the activist, El Mortada Iamrachen, is not to the liking of the Thafra association. In this place where he is supposed to be protected according to the laws in force, he is "undergoing special treatment".
Bringing together the families of the detainees of the Hirak of the Rif, the Thafra Association for Loyalty and Solidarity is doing everything in its power to closely follow the case of El Mortada Iamrachen. It denounces the repeated harassment he is subjected to by the local prison administration of Salé 2.
On Sunday, August 18, 2019, it announced that the prisoner would be subjected to other treatments by the local prison administration of Salé 2. It therefore calls on each official at his level to "find out about the reality of the provocations and harassment" that Iamrachen would be a victim of. According to the association, these treatments would have "aggravated his suffering due to the forced isolation" that would have been "imposed on him".
As for the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR), it formally denies all these unfounded accusations. While basing itself on the law in force, it disavows this association as well as the former repentant imam of Salafism, the author of the controversial publication on Facebook. For the state institution, the detainee has not contacted anyone outside his family members.
On the day of Eid al-Adha, Abdelouahab Rafiki, known as Abou Hafs, in a publication on Facebook, felt happy to have communicated with his friend, El Mortada, from the local prison in Salé. He did not hesitate to describe this call received as the "most beautiful phone call" of the celebration of the Feast of Sacrifice.
