Morocco Prison Authority Denies Mistreatment of Al-Hoceima Protest Detainees

The General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR) has informed the public that the detainees in the context of the events in Al-Hoceima enjoy good detention conditions.
The DGAPR, in a clarification, indicates that these detainees benefit from good prison conditions in cells with ventilation, lighting and cleanliness.
In addition, they enjoy their rights to food, walks, baths and medical coverage. The DGAPR stressed that all the conditions are met for the scrupulous respect of their rights as human beings.
The DGAPR qualifies as false the allegations contained in the press release stating that a detainee at the local prison of Tanger 2 was on a hunger strike. The detainee has never notified the administration of this penitentiary establishment since he regularly receives his meals and his state of health has not deteriorated.
As for the detainee at the local prison of Nador 2, he began a hunger strike for reasons related to his case and not in relation to the conditions of his detention. The DGAPR assures that he is under constant medical supervision and that his state of health is "stable".
For the institution responsible for the management of prison life, there is an attempt to spread false data in order to discredit the penitentiary establishments and mislead public opinion.
