Moroccan Prison Officials Deny Visitation Restrictions for Hirak Detainees in Tangier

The families of Hirak detainees at the local prison in Tangier have never been prevented from meeting their loved ones, insist the officials of the prison administration in Tangier.

Following the report of the Thafra Association, after a prison visit by the families of Hirak detainees, the local prison in Tangier formally denied the will of the activist, Mohamed Mejjaoui, to meet his relatives during the Eid al-Adha period, reports Hespress.com.

Regarding the visit of the families of Hirak detainees to the local prison of Tangier 2, it stated on Sunday, August 18, 2019 that Mohamed Mejjaoui’s sister "had not provided any document, following the rules in penitentiary establishments, proving that she is legally a relative of the detainee. In this case, she could not visit her brother," the officials said.

Two other cases were taken into account by the same prison administration, namely the visit of the former Hirak detainee, Anas El Khattabi, to the detainee Rabiï Lablaq. To clarify this case, the administration found that there was no family relationship between the two people.

The other case that had a happy ending is that of the mother of the Hirak detainee from Talarouak (Issaguen region), Salah Lachkham. The prison administration authorized the mother to visit him in the absence of her national identity card.

The same media specifies that efforts have nevertheless been made at the level of this administration to ensure, during this special day, the visit of families to their loved ones.
