Report: Moroccans Top List of Terror Suspects Arrested in Spain

Moroccans represent 40% of all persons arrested for terrorism-related connections in Spain. This is revealed in the annual report of the International Observatory of Terrorism Studies (OIET).
In 2019, the Spanish security services carried out 25 operations that led to the arrest of 58 suspects, including 29 radicalized individuals. In total, 23 Moroccans and 16 Spaniards were arrested for links to terrorism, reports Akhbar Al Yaoum. The other neutralized suspects are of Egyptian, Algerian, Tunisian, Syrian, Mauritanian, Libyan and Iraqi nationality.
Despite this high number of Moroccans arrested in Spain, the report notes that Morocco did not record any terrorist attacks in 2019. As proof, the kingdom’s security services have taken preventive measures that have thwarted terrorist projects.
In total, 89 people were arrested as part of 27 security operations carried out throughout the Moroccan territory last year.
