In total, 864,546 Moroccans were legally established in Spain as of January 1, 2019; representing an increase of 6.3% compared to 2018 (50,959 people).

With this number, Moroccans maintain their position as the largest foreign community legally settled in the Iberian country, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INE) in a press release.

With 665,598 people, Romanians occupy second place, followed by Colombians (272,596), Britons (262,123), Italians (251,610), Chinese (232,617), Venezuelans (188,735) and Ecuadorians (130,795).

The INE reports that Spain had 47,431,256 inhabitants as of last January 1, up 405,048 people from January 1, 2019, reaching its highest level in history; which recalls that the Iberian country had crossed the 47 million inhabitants mark for the first time in the first half of 2019.

According to the Spanish Ministry of Labor, Migration and Social Security, some 268,564 Moroccans were affiliated with the social security system in Spain at the end of March.
