Muslim Population in Spain Surpasses 2 Million, Study Finds

For the first time, and following the results of a demographic study conducted on the Muslim population in Spain, the number of resident Muslims has reached 2,091,656.
This study, dated December 31, 2019, and carried out by the Union of Islamic Communities of Spain and the Andalusian Observatory, shows that the number of Muslims in Spain has increased by 97,000, going from 1,994,656 to 2.1 million, over the past year. This increase, according to the commission, is due to the arrival in Spain of migrants, particularly from sub-Saharan Africa and Asian countries such as Pakistan and Bangladesh, says Riay Tatary to Europa press and reported by the website Mundo Islam.
The study showed that out of the 2.1 million Muslims, 1.2 million are migrants, or 58%, and 879,808 are Spanish nationals, or 42%. Among foreigners, the majority of these Muslims are Moroccans, with a number of 812,412, followed by those from Pakistan (88,783), Senegal (70,879) and Algeria (63,051). On the side of Spanish Muslims, the majority are Muslims born in Spain with a number of 553,886 people.
The study also reveals that 90% of Muslim students lack religious education classes. There are only 80 teachers for 326,359 students throughout Spain.
