Repeat Offender Arrested for Fatal Car Theft in Casablanca
A 42-year-old repeat offender was arrested on Friday by the national security elements of the Sidi Bernoussi district in Casablanca. He would be involved in a case of car theft and voluntary homicide.
It was while trying to seize a vehicle whose engine had been left running by the owner that the accused committed homicide, in addition to the attempted theft. The victim to whom the vehicle belonged did not want to let himself be robbed, and clung to the car for a certain distance, while the thief, in his mad dash, was determined to escape. Unfortunately, he violently collided with another car that was on the scene. Death was instantaneous.
The victim’s body was taken to the hospital morgue for an autopsy, while the accused was taken into custody, pending the conclusions of the investigation, opened under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office. It will be a matter of determining not only the ins and outs of these criminal acts, but also of examining a possible involvement of the suspect in a similar case of vehicle theft for which he was already the subject of a wanted notice issued by the judicial police of Aïn Chock in Casablanca.
