Rennes Recruit Ibrahim Salah Honors Comatose Ajax Player with Jersey Number 34

Ibrahim Salah, the new recruit of Stade Rennais, explained his choice to wear the number 34 during his press conference on Tuesday. The player said that this number was a tribute to Abdelhak Nouri, the Ajax Amsterdam midfielder who suffered a cardiac arrest in 2017 and has been in an artificial coma ever since.
"It’s for Abdelhak Nouri. I spoke to his family on the phone. This story had touched me. It’s a small gesture for them, to give them something good," Salah explained to the journalists present at the event.
This gesture of solidarity from the Rennes recruit is particularly moving, as it recalls the tragedy that has affected Nouri and his family for several years now. Since then, the player has become a symbol of unity and solidarity in the world of football.
Salah’s gesture is all the more poignant as Nouri is of Moroccan origin, just like the newly arrived striker at Stade Rennais. The Moroccan national team had also paid tribute to Nouri during the 2022 World Cup, by brandishing a jersey with his name on it.
