Moroccan U-23 Team Honors Abdelhak Nouri After Historic AFCON Victory

A tribute was paid on Saturday evening to Abdelhak Nouri, after the victory of the Moroccan under-23 players in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations which took place at the Moulay Abdallah Complex in Rabat.
The emblematic number 34, dear to Nouri, was worn by Ismael Saibari following the victory of the Moroccans in front of their audience, marking their first title in the Africa Cup of Nations.
To recall, on July 8, 2017, Abdelhak Nouri suffered a cardiac arrest during a friendly match played by his club, Ajax Amsterdam, against Werder Bremen. His fate tragically changed that day, putting an end to a promising professional career.
The Moroccan-Dutch player remained in a coma for 2 years and 9 months, before waking up in March 2020. His contract had been terminated by the club long before his awakening. The player’s family and Ajax then found common ground for financial compensation.
