Record-Breaking Influx: Over 560,000 Moroccans Enter Through Tangier Port During Marhaba 2019 Campaign

On August 5, 2019, two months after the launch of the 2019 edition of this major humanitarian operation, the Marhaba campaign recorded a new record of arrivals. 567,932 passengers entered Morocco through the Port of Tangier.
Arrivals are multiplying at the land, sea and air borders since June 5, 2019. For the success of this campaign, several actors are involved, namely the local authorities, the General Directorate of National Security, customs, border health control and the Royal Gendarmerie. The coordination of this campaign is ensured by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity.
Halfway through Marhaba 2019, the influx observed at the borders proves, according to the authorities, the success of this operation. More than 159,110 vehicles were recorded by the Port of Tangier over the past two months. A record was also set over the weekend of August 3-4, with 61,197 passengers and 15,601 vehicles arriving.
The same source reports that arrangements are being made to ensure the return phase under the same conditions as the arrival. To this end, the Tanger Med port authority invites travelers to consult the traffic forecasts available on its website and on its mobile app. However, it asks Moroccans Residing Abroad (MREs) to avoid peak periods, especially from August 28 to 31, 2019, in order to travel in the best conditions of comfort and serenity.
