Moroccan Diaspora Homecoming Surges: 11% Rise in Arrivals at Tanger Med Port

The "Marhaba" 2019 Operation, which marks the return of Moroccans residing abroad (MREs), via the Tanger-Med passenger port, recorded an 11% increase in the number of passengers and a 6% increase in the number of vehicles, compared to last year, which denotes its smooth running.
Having started on June 5, 2019, the "Marhaba" 2019 Operation, which takes place at the Tanger-Med passenger port, the main gateway for Moroccans residing abroad (MREs), is progressing normally. Mourad El Menini, in charge of the "Marhaba" Operation at the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, said that the Operation rhymes with "fluidity and security", reports atlasinfo.fr. According to his explanations, the twenty centers under the Foundation, five of which are located outside the national territory, have carried out more than 50,000 interventions and services, for the benefit of Moroccans of the World, including 10,000 medical interventions.
According to him, the available data show an 11% increase in the number of passengers and a 6% increase in the number of vehicles, compared to the same period last year. The Tanger-Med passenger port, he specified, recorded 60% of these interventions, and the Foundation is strengthening its services to better meet the strong demand during this period. To this end, three mobile teams and a medical unit have been launched to ensure quality services in terms of medical and social assistance.
For his part, Kamal Lakhmas, Director of the Tanger-Med passenger port, indicated that the recorded volume of passenger and vehicle traffic corresponds to the forecasts announced by the port authorities at the beginning of the operation.
As for its second phase, that of the returns to the host countries, it will start in the next few days.
