US Recognition of Moroccan Sovereignty in Western Sahara Deals Blow to Polisario Front

The decision of President Donald Trump to recognize Morocco’s full and complete sovereignty over the entire Sahara is making headlines in the international press. The Spanish newspaper El Pais describes it on Saturday as "the greatest setback for the Polisario" since the ceasefire declared in 1991.
The newspaper considers that the Polisario will have great difficulty recovering from this American decision which seems to have received a favorable echo in many countries. Morocco, step by step, has built good commercial and diplomatic relations. All this thanks to "powerful international alliances," says ElPais.
According to the newspaper, since Morocco proposed in 2007 to grant autonomy to the Sahara, the UN Security Council has been more conciliatory and interested in Morocco’s position on the Sahara issue.
