Ramadan 2026 in Morocco: First Fasting Day and Crescent Moon Forecast

The start date of the holy month is becoming clearer. According to estimates from the International Astronomy Center, the 1st of Ramadan 1447 will fall on Thursday, February 19, 2026, in most Islamic countries, including Morocco. These forecasts are based on precise data concerning the moon’s age and sunset times.

Mohammad Shawkat Odeh, the center’s director, indicated that observing the crescent will be impossible on Tuesday, February 17, as the moon will set at the same time as, or too close to, the sun. Eyes will therefore turn to the sky on Wednesday, February 18.

In this regard, Morocco will benefit from optimal observation conditions. The report specifies that Rabat will be one of the most favorable cities: the moon will remain visible above the horizon there for 73 minutes after sunset. With an estimated age of 29 hours and 53 minutes, the crescent will be well above the minimum threshold required to be seen with the naked eye.
