Raï singer Cheb Faudel, whose real name is Faudel Belloua, appears in court this Friday before the criminal chamber of the court of first instance in Marrakech.
Faudel’s Franco-Algerian ex-wife accuses him of failing to pay child support. Convicted by the French courts to pay arrears, this decision has not been executed in Morocco. She has therefore seized the Moroccan justice system, in Marrakech, where Faudel lives with his children and his new partner.
A preliminary investigation was opened by the public prosecutor, leaving Faudel on provisional release. At the same time, his ex-wife’s lawyer obtained a protective seizure on the singer’s villa.
