Faudel: Twelve years without seeing his children, the personal drama of the singer

The singer Faudel, a prominent figure in raï music in the early 2000s, now lives in Marrakech, far from the French scene. In an interview with Paris Match, he looked back on his career, his move to Morocco, and the painful break with his first two children.

Nicknamed the "little prince of raï", Faudel achieved success at a very young age, but his career declined after his public support for Nicolas Sarkozy in 2007. In 2011, a year after the birth of his daughter Yana, he decided to leave France. "I came to Morocco to take a break. The reality is that I was in the middle of a burnout," he explained. "The battery was completely drained [...] at 33 I was exhausted, burned out."

A 12-year family break and a conflict over child support

This "break" turned into a permanent move to Marrakech, but it came at a high personal cost. The singer revealed that he had not seen his first two children, Enzy (born in 2002) and Yana, since his departure, a period of twelve years. "I haven’t seen my first two children since I settled permanently in Morocco," he confided.

He also addressed the conflict he has with his ex-partner, Anissa Raiah, over child support payments. "My ex-wife accuses me of not paying the child support, she is still pursuing me," he said, while claiming to have his bank statements available to prove his good faith.

Faudel has since rebuilt his life in Morocco. Married in 2017 to Hala, a teacher he met in Marrakech, he is the father of two other children, Loulia (7 years old) and Taim (5 years old). Regarding his eldest son Enzy, who has become a business lawyer, he expressed his pride, while admitting that he was "clearly not ready" to be a father at the age of 23.
