Rabat sends its teams to Korea to prepare for the arrival of its electric buses

Bucheon City Corporation published a call for tenders on Friday, September 18, to organize the reception and training in Korea of a Moroccan delegation. The mission is directly part of the project to create an environmentally friendly public transport system in Rabat.

The contract has a budget of 65.01 million won, or approximately 410,000 dirhams. Interested Korean companies can submit their bids until September 29, according to the notice published on the Korean Bid24 platform via the official G2B public procurement portal.

The quality of the proposed program will carry particular weight in the selection process: the technical score will account for 90% of the evaluation, compared with just 10% for the price. The selected company will be responsible for the training in Korea and for organizing the delegation’s stay.

This new contract therefore does not concern the purchase of the vehicles themselves. It does, however, show that the project has entered its skills-transfer phase, following the signing in March 2025 of an agreement between the city of Rabat and the Korean International Cooperation Agency.

Funded by KOICA to the tune of 13 million dollars, the program is to be carried out between 2025 and 2028. It provides for the introduction of electric buses in Rabat, as well as technical support intended to enable Moroccan teams to operate this new system sustainably.

Korea is not only supplying the vehicles

The Korean project is not limited to delivering buses. It must also transfer the skills needed to manage, maintain and integrate them into the capital’s transport network.

The call for tenders published in Seoul specifically targets this human-resources component. The training is intended to enable officials involved in the project to learn how the Korean clean-transport model operates and prepare its adaptation to Rabat’s constraints.

This step comes as the capital is simultaneously developing other electric mobility projects. Rabat has notably been selected to receive technical support for the creation of a rapid transit line equipped with 30 electric buses between Salé, Rabat and Témara. Solar installations are also being considered at several depots.

The KOICA program nevertheless constitutes a separate initiative. When it was presented, the Korean agency had stressed the need to support the supply of vehicles with training, technical advice and awareness-raising about less-polluting transport.
