Rabat Residents Clash with Police over COVID-19 Travel Restrictions

After the Takkadoum neighborhood, it is the turn of the residents of the Farah and Rachad neighborhoods in the Youssoufia district of Rabat to be required to provide a special travel authorization.
According to the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia, two weeks ago, these two neighborhoods were isolated following the multiplication of contamination cases. This decision has been the subject of a confrontation between law enforcement and the population since last Friday. The closure of certain areas considered dangerous in view of the number of contamination cases recorded has exacerbated the tension.
Several demonstrators were even arrested for having broken down the control barriers. Many of them oppose their isolation. For them, the number of infections in Rabat is not so important as to deserve so many restrictive measures. They denounce a lack of communication and above all a haphazard management of this health crisis. The authorities think the opposite and believe that these measures, not far from being a punishment, aim at the well-being of the population.
According to the newspaper, the quarantine has worsened the economic situation of the inhabitants who were already facing an unnamed precariousness.
