Rabat outperforms dozens of global metropolises in a new index
The city of Rabat ranks 29th out of 80 in the global index of attractiveness of emerging cities. A performance evaluated today through sixteen quantitative indicators measuring the economy, the environment, social integration and urban infrastructure.
With a score of 6.20 points, the Moroccan capital imposes itself in this international ranking developed by the group The European House – Ambrosetti. For comparison, Kuala Lumpur dominates the ranking with the maximum score of 10 points, while Abidjan closes the ranking with a single point. The index evaluates the real capacity of the metropolises to retain their internal resources and to capture foreign investments, far from the simple announced policies.

On the economic level, Rabat positions itself in the first half of the table, occupying the 28th place with 6.47 points. This assessment is based on the cost of living, purchasing power, gross domestic product per capita and the ratio between real estate prices and incomes. These tangible criteria testify to the dynamism and attractiveness of the metropolis for investors.
The city’s performance is maintained in the environmental and social dimensions, where it ranks 34th (6.72 points) and 36th (4.99 points) respectively. The scores obtained reflect the management of air quality, the availability of public transportation and green spaces, but also the efficiency of sanitation and the management of slums in the face of urban expansion.

Finally, the study evaluates urban infrastructure, encompassing access to drinking water, electricity and the Internet. While Rabat’s specific position is not detailed on this point, the analysis shows that the leading cities like Astana and Tbilisi excel in these basic networks. Conversely, the cities at the bottom of the ranking such as Cotonou or Brazzaville suffer from delays in these areas, directly affecting their overall ranking.
