Rabat’s Jidar Street Art Festival Returns: 9 International Artists to Create Murals

The Jidar Street Art Festival is about to return to Rabat for its eighth edition, from May 18 to 28, announce the organizers. Nine artists from five different countries will create nine mural paintings over these ten days. The program will also include a collective wall, silkscreen workshops, an artist residency, discussions and guided tours.
"In nine years, Jidar has helped give a new image to the city of Rabat, an ephemeral heritage that will be enriched this year with the works of Telmo, Miel, Sebas Velasco, Elisa Capdevila, Bezt, Alegria Del Prado, Med, Meriam Benkirane and Machiman," say the organizers. These international artists come from the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, Mexico and Morocco.
Silkscreen workshops will take place on May 24 and 25 to allow the artists to diversify their working techniques. The Jidar Talks will also be held on May 25 and 26 at the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMVI), offering a moment of reflection on the practice of street art.
Guided tours, led by former artists’ assistants, will strengthen the link between the murals and the inhabitants of the neighborhoods concerned. The aim is to create a visual education legitimizing street art in the eyes of the public and to promote its development.
