Rabat: the earth trembled this Saturday, a series of tremors hits Morocco

A slight fright in the Moroccan capital. A seismic shock was felt this Saturday afternoon by the inhabitants of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region. While no damage has been reported, this event occurs in a context of seismic activity in recent days, particularly in the Meknes area.

According to seismic monitoring data, the earthquake, with a magnitude of 3.0 degrees, was recorded precisely at 3:18 pm. The epicenter was located near the Hay Riad residential area, southwest of Rabat (about 10 km from the city center), at an estimated depth of around 17 km. This depth explains the low intensity felt.

This phenomenon is not isolated at the end of the year. Other movements have been reported elsewhere in the Kingdom:

• Meknes: A shock of magnitude 4.1 on the Richter scale was recorded just before midnight, followed by a second shock of magnitude 2.7 in the morning.

• Fès-Meknes: An earthquake of magnitude 3.3 had already been detected on the evening of Wednesday, December 24 at 11:43 pm.
