Rabat Aims to Transform from Administrative Capital to Tourist Destination by 2020

Rabat intends to gradually leave its status as an administrative capital to become a real tourist city. Its ambitions for 2020 are proof of this.

"For a few years now, the accommodation capacity of our region has been constantly increasing. And this year, we are going to double the supply of 5-star hotels," said Hassan Bargach, president of the Regional Tourism Council (CRT), during the last general assembly of the CRT of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (R.S.K) region.

In this sense, he specified that in 2020, the opening of three hotel establishments belonging to world-renowned brands is planned. According to the president of the CRT, these are the Fairmont at the Salé marina, the Ritz Carlton hotel in Rabat and the Marriott within the Aribat Center commercial complex, recently opened to the public. These three projects, which required a total investment of more than 1.5 billion DH, have a total capacity exceeding 900 beds, close to the current capacity of 5-star hotels.

"The arrival of major global players in the tourism sector, who are mobilizing large investments, is a sign of confidence in the destination," welcomed Hassan Bargach.
