Meknes to Boost Tourism with $19 Million Investment in New Hotels

The prefectural delegate of tourism in Meknes announced the upcoming realization of eleven tourist units for a total investment of 193.1 million dirhams in this city.

The city of Meknes is about to change its face soon. And for good reason, the many tourism investments undertaken by the government in this locality of the country. According to the prefectural delegate of tourism of this city in the north, renowned for its imperial past, these projects represent a bed capacity of 1,042 beds.

The prefectural delegate, Ahmed Khemlichi, during a press trip called "Media Impact Days", and initiated by his structure, also noted that seven other tourism projects, at a total cost of more than 142 MDH and a bed capacity of 480 beds, are currently under study. However, a 27-bed tourist unit was already completed in 2019 with a budget of 6 MDH.

Constraints hinder tourism development at the city level, in particular, the lack of land allocated to tourism investment and the difficulties in accessing financing for project leaders, as well as other difficulties related to the transfer and land, were noted by the tourism official.

Furthermore, the prefecture of Meknes has 76 classified tourist establishments with a bed capacity of 4,083 beds. This press trip was an opportunity for the participants to explore the tangible and intangible heritage of Meknes, its deep-rooted imperial history, its diversified hinterland, its craft richness and its local products.
