Rabat-Agdal Station Development Stalls: Massive Urban Project Faces Years-Long Delay

While the Rabat-Agdal station has been a reality for nearly five years, the construction of a massive multiplex tower, a shopping center, a hotel and office space planned as part of this integrated urban project is still not effective.
When will the construction of the massive multiplex tower, the shopping center, the hotel and the office space near the Rabat Agdal station take place? Nearly five years after the inauguration of this station, its sub-projects are struggling to materialize, while the National Railway Office (ONCF) had launched in early 2019 a call for expressions of interest to appoint investors whose mission is to develop, develop and market this mega-project, reports Challenge. At the time, two advisors, namely Valyans Consulting and Burj Finance, were brought in. Since then, nothing more. The successful bidder has still not been announced. It’s at a standstill. The question is whether the project will be relaunched one day.
Renovated for the first time in 2004, the Rabat Agdal station was significantly renovated in 2018 to welcome Morocco’s first high-speed train, Al Boraq, the TGV connecting Casablanca to Tangier in 2h20mn. Today, the station connects two neighborhoods long separated by the railway line: to the north, the Akkari neighborhood and the el-Houria avenue, at the end of which the ocean looms; to the south, the Agdal neighborhood. It was initially built in 1925.
