Pro-Palestinian Groups Protest Enrico Macias Concert in Morocco Over Israel Ties
Thursday 14 February 2019, by
The maintenance of the concert by the Franco-Algerian singer Enrico Macias in Casablanca is not to the liking of the Moroccan pro-Palestine organizations, who have just called for a demonstration in front of the venue where the concert is to be held this Thursday, February 14.
The National Working Group for Palestine published a video on Tuesday in which it calls for mobilization against the singer accused of supporting the Israeli armed branch in charge of border surveillance. For these activists, it is out of the question that Enrico Macias comes to "defile" Moroccan soil, when he has blood on his hands. They are therefore calling for a demonstration today at 7:30 pm in front of the concert hall.
Reacting to this call, the singer stated that he will come to Morocco no matter what. "I don’t care at all about this boycott threat because I’m going to go. I’m not giving them reason. My victory will be to go sing in Casablanca," the singer had said on the radio show Les Grandes Gueules on RMC, without going back on the reasons for these calls for a boycott.
A bit provocative, he called on those who are boycotting him to come this Thursday to Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca where he is due to land. "I compare Morocco to Andalusia of the past, it is a country of tolerance, it is not for a few individuals who want to harm me that I will change my mind about Morocco," he got angry.
For the Moroccan human rights activist Sion Assidon, Enrico Macias is "an unconditional defender of the occupation of Palestine and especially of its army. He is heavily involved in an association (Migdal) that supports the soldiers of the unit in charge of border surveillance (Magav) known for its war crimes against the civilian population," he wrote a few days ago on his Facebook account.
