Enrico Macias Defies Boycott Calls, Vows to Perform in Casablanca Concert

The singer Enrico Macias will be present on February 14 next at the Megarama in Casablanca to give a concert, despite the calls for a boycott launched on social networks.

Reacting to this call on the "Les Grandes Gueules" radio show on RMC, the Franco-Algerian singer says he will go despite these calls. "I couldn’t care less about this boycott threat because I’m going to go. I’m not giving them reason. My victory will be to go sing in Casablanca," the singer said, however omitting to give the reasons for this call for a boycott.

"I compare Morocco to Andalusia of old, it is a country of tolerance, it is not for a few individuals who want to harm me that I will change my mind about Morocco," he added, giving an appointment to his detractors on February 14 next at Mohammed V airport in Casablanca.

His lawyer and friend Gilles-William Goldnadel also defended this trip to Morocco, stating that it is "a huge injustice". "It must be known (that he) has even been criticized within part of the pro-Israeli Jewish community because, precisely, he has always sung for peace. He even sang once for Yasser Arafat. If there is someone who has gotten involved for Israeli-Arab peace, it is Enrico Macias."

For the Moroccan human rights activist Sion Assidon, Enrico Macias is "an unconditional defender of the occupation of Palestine and especially of its army. He is tirelessly involved in an association (Migdal) that supports the soldiers of the unit in charge of border surveillance (Magav) known for its war crimes against the civilian population," he wrote on his Facebook account a few days ago.
