US Praises Morocco’s Leadership in Regional Security and Counterterrorism Efforts

During a visit to Morocco, US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman welcomed Morocco’s regional policy on security cooperation.
Speaking at a joint press conference held at the end of the consultations she had with Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, the diplomat "thanked" Morocco, "a stable partner, an exporter of security" for its leadership in connection with the Global Forum on Counterterrorism and for its "supporting role" within the Global Coalition to Defeat the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, reports the MAP.
In this regard, the American official recalled the Kingdom’s contribution as co-chair of the Africa Focus Group, a think tank aimed at adopting a forward-looking and strategic approach to the threat posed by IS, as well as the hosting of the next ministerial meeting of the Coalition in May.
Sherman also congratulated Morocco for its constant participation in the "African Lion" multilateral military exercises.
Other issues related to the security situation in the Sahel, Libya and Ukraine were discussed. In this regard, Bourita and his guest reaffirmed the importance of respecting the territorial integrity, sovereignty and national unity of all United Nations member states.
