Police Officer Shoots Armed Man Showing Signs of Mental Illness in Boujdour

A sergeant from the provincial security district of Boujdour used his weapon on Thursday to subdue a dangerous individual. The suspect, who showed signs of mental illness, threatened the lives of citizens and police elements with a bladed weapon.
The suspect, who visibly showed signs of mental illness, was armed with a knife that he brandished on the public highway, to "dangerously threaten the lives of citizens".
Informed, the police sent a patrol to the scene to apprehend the individual and restore order, according to a press release from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN). However, once on the spot, the police elements were faced with the fierce resistance of the suspect. This forced the police sergeant to draw his service weapon in order to neutralize the madman and seize his bladed weapon, adds the same source.
Following his arrest, a preliminary investigation was immediately opened, under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, in order to shed light on the mental and psychological health of the suspect, and to clarify all the details of this incident.
