Police Officer Fatally Stabbed at Flea Market in Safi, Morocco; Suspect Arrested

A 46-year-old individual violently attacked with a bladed weapon a peace officer in Safi, resulting in his death. A judicial investigation has been opened under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to determine the circumstances of the tragedy.
The suspect, a repeat offender according to the initial findings of the investigation, violently attacked with a bladed weapon his victim with whom he had a dispute over the price of certain goods in a flea market in Safi, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said in a statement.
The 55-year-old police officer did not survive the attack. An autopsy will be performed, the same source said. As for the suspect, he was taken into custody for the needs of the investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office in order to shed light on this case.
The victim was posthumously promoted by the Director General of National Security, who asked the security officers in Safi and the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Social Works of the National Security to provide all necessary assistance to the victim’s family, the statement said, informing that the costs of his burial will also be fully covered.
