Police Fatally Shoot Armed Man in Paris Business District After Failed Taser Attempt

On Friday in the west of Paris, police officers shot dead a man who was threatening them with a bladed weapon. The investigation revealed that he was an undocumented Moroccan national who had escaped from a psychiatric hospital a few months ago.
It was in the business district of La Défense, in Paris, that the events took place on Friday around 10:30 am. After spotting the 42-year-old man armed with a bladed weapon, a security guard quickly contacted the police. The patrol dispatched to the scene was taken by surprise by the man who jumped on them with a saw, threatening to kill them.
According to Emmanuel Quemener, from the Alliance Police nationale union, the police first tried to neutralize him with a taser without any result. This is how they were forced to use their service weapons.
In total, seven shots were fired, and the 42-year-old man with a psychiatric history was hit in the chest and thigh. All attempts by the law enforcement officers to resuscitate him were in vain. He succumbed to his injuries.
For the moment, only the departmental judicial police service (SDPJ) of Hauts-de-Seine has been seized of the investigation by the Nanterre prosecutor’s office, the same source revealed.
