PJD and Interior Ministry Clash Over Regional Development as Elections Loom

Bickering between the Justice and Development Party (PJD) and the men of Abdelouafi Laftit, Minister of the Interior, as elections approach. In the Draa-Tafilalet region in particular, PJD elected officials are attacking the wali with virulence.
The senior officials of the territorial administration, led by the walis of the regions and governors, are being attacked by the PJD leaders who are firing on all cylinders against the Ministry of the Interior, reports the daily Assabah.
The latter are accused by the Islamist party of taking advantage of the approach of the electoral deadlines to block certain development programs in certain municipalities, in disregard of the interests of the citizens.
In its statement, the PJD leadership accused Abdelouafi Laftit’s men, the Minister of the Interior, of preventing PJD elected officials from participating in decision-making on issues related to the current fight against the spread of coronavirus.
The same PJD claims that its members are being blocked by the Interior on the pretext that the Islamists are using them for electoral purposes. Similarly, ministry officials are intentionally removing certain PJD elected officials from their posts under the pretext of serious faults or mismanagement.
