Morocco Halts PJD’s COVID Aid Distribution Amid Election Campaign Concerns

The Ministry of the Interior has summoned the Party of Justice and Development (PJD) to stop the distribution of masks, disinfectants and food to the population, including its members, in these times of Covid-19. An operation that sounds like an early election campaign.
The Ministry of the Interior has instructed the governors of several provinces to prohibit the PJD from exploiting the coronavirus pandemic in premature election campaigns, reports Assabah. They were explicitly asked not to issue any more authorizations to the Islamist party to organize distribution campaigns of masks and disinfectant products bearing the PJD logo.
The elected officials of the other parties have also denounced these campaigns, which they perceive as an early election campaign. According to them, these are conscience purchases, a practice contrary to the law governing election campaigns and the principles of transparency and integrity.
This is not the first time the Ministry of the Interior has warned the PJD during this health crisis. A few months earlier, it had put the Islamist party on notice against the "coronavirus basket" that the party was preparing to distribute exclusively to the underprivileged and people, members of the PJD, affected by the economic consequences of the pandemic.
