Morocco’s Interior Minister Hails Smooth Elections Amid Pandemic Challenges

The Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit says he is satisfied with the smooth running of the September 8 elections which, according to him, took place in the "best conditions".
At a press conference on Thursday, Laftit, accompanied on the occasion by the Delegate Minister to the Minister of the Interior, Noureddine Boutayeb, declared that even if "these electoral deadlines took place in a particular and exceptional context, marked essentially by the challenges related to the current health crisis, our will and our awareness of the importance of the political stage that our country is going through, have allowed us together to hold these elections under the best conditions".
In a presentation to the media on the electoral process, the Minister of the Interior praised the mobilization of all components to bring the various electoral deadlines, legislative, regional and municipal, to a successful conclusion, a real stage that condenses the broad hopes and aspirations of the entire Moroccan people.
The Minister of the Interior also took the opportunity to congratulate the candidates, and through them, the political bodies for their respect for the rules of fair competition, "despite isolated acts that did not impact the normal conduct of the campaign".
In application of the High Royal Instructions to the Minister of the Interior and the Attorney General to ensure the proper conduct of the electoral operations and to fight against all practices that could undermine them, a central commission and provincial and regional election monitoring commissions have been set up, the minister recalled.
