Moroccan Socialist Leader Calls for Ban on Religious Exploitation in Elections

The First Secretary of the USFP, Driss Lachgar, disagrees with the government. He accuses it of exploiting religion and using money in elections, while remaining attached to the uninominal ballot.
The leader of the socialists has asked the Minister of Islamic Affairs to publish a decree banning the exploitation of mosques, zawiyas and mausoleums for electoral purposes, reports Assabah. For Lachgar, this is important, because the exploitation of religion for political purposes creates discrimination between the sons of the same Kingdom.
Although part of the majority, the USFP leader demands that the government strengthen control over the use of money during election periods. And then, he is attached to the return of the uninominal ballot, the interest of which is to bring voters closer to activist candidates, instead of the list ballot which allows candidates who do not always deserve it to win.
The Head of Government Saâd-Eddine El Othamni was unable to reach an agreement with the leaders of the political parties represented in Parliament, indicates the same source. Except for the PJD, the entire majority is in favor of the return to the uninominal ballot, or to extend it to municipalities with more than 70,000 inhabitants (USFP proposal) or 100,000 inhabitants as the UC wished.
As for the leaders of the parliamentary opposition, they are in favor of the common denominator, while taking into account blank and null ballots. Difficulties in sight for the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit.
