Pathé to Launch First Moroccan Multiplex in Casablanca, Betting on Cinema Revival

The European group Pathé which operates cinemas plans to open its first multiplex in Morocco and it will be in Casablanca. If the experience is successful, it plans to invest in other Moroccan cities.
Californie, one of the upscale neighborhoods of Casablanca, will host in the coming months the very first multiplex of the European group Pathé. While for several years in Morocco, cinema attendance has been declining, the group is taking on a real challenge.
Pathé Californie Casablanca has already seen its capital increased to 6 million dirhams following a recapitalization of 5.5 million dirhams, which aims to finance the launch of the first project in Morocco.
Challenge affirms that its realization could well allow the flourishing of tens of thousands of inhabitants of the "Californie, Boukoura Green City, Sidi Maârouf and co" neighborhoods who cross all of Casablanca today, to take their children to see a good movie at Mégarama or at the I-Max of the Morocco Mall.
The European group Pathé, which employs more than 4,000 people, achieved a turnover of 872 million euros last year, or nearly 10 billion dirhams, of which 85% came from the cinema business with a total park of 1,117 screens. It is investing in film production and distribution, as well as the operation of cinemas, and is present in France, England, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium and Tunisia.
