Outrage in Morocco as Kuwaiti Man Accused of Child Sexual Assault Released

Thursday 6 February 2020, by Bladi.net

The case of the 23-year-old Kuwaiti national, accused of sexual assault on a 14-year-old minor, in Marrakech, is the subject of appeals for the remand in custody of the accused.

This remand in custody is followed with stupor by the victim’s family and human rights associations. According to Médias 24, the facts date back to July 2018, when the victim and the accused met in a villa in a residence in Marrakech. At the end of this pleasure outing, the plaintiff accuses the defendant of "forced and violent" intercourse, while the Kuwaiti persists and signs that they were "consensual and paid".

The same source maintains that based on certain documents in the file, the preliminary investigation had led to the conclusions of corruption of a minor and indecent assault with defloration. They are established on the basis of the victim’s statements during all phases of the investigation. As for the accused, he denies these facts to escape the sanction implied by his criminal act, concludes the report of the Morals Brigade.

Now released on bail (30,000 DH), the pedophile is under surveillance and prohibited from leaving Moroccan territory. But he will be prosecuted for "indecent assault with violence" on a 14-year-old teenager, the same media announces. In this capacity, the Kuwaiti tourist will appear on February 11 before the Criminal Chamber of the Marrakech Court of Appeal.

This provisional release is disapproved by the Moroccan Association for Human Rights (Marrakech section), which is pleased, moreover, with the appeal made by the public prosecutor’s office against this release. It welcomes this appeal still being examined in chambers, in camera, and whose date of deliberation has not been specified. The Association also announces its intention to constitute itself as a civil party in this case, which it has itself revealed to the public so that the defendant can be subject to the rigor of the law.
