Oriental Region of Morocco Seeks Diaspora Investment to Boost Post-Covid Economy

The Oriental region wants to count on Moroccans of the world to kick-start the economic recovery, which has been heavily impacted by the Covid-19 crisis. It says it is ready to support the dynamic.
In Morocco, the Oriental region is known for its migratory flow, due to the historical intensity of its exchanges with the other side of the Mediterranean, reports l’Économiste, according to which the importance of population movements to Europe lies in the financial flows, in the form of currency transfers to the country of origin.
These funds were the subject of a Webinar organized by the Collective of Associations for the Development of the Oriental in Europe (CADOE) and the Mohammed Premier University of Oujda (UMP).
During this meeting, the participants decided on a series of actions that could boost the growth of the region, including the organization of weekly round tables until the end of January 2022, then the preparation of an international conference on the contribution of MREs in the economic recovery in the Oriental, which will be held on February 26, 2022 in Oujda.
These various meetings will aim to encourage collective reflections around development programs by mobilizing the driving forces of the two shores, the newspaper points out.
Speaking on the occasion, the president of the CADOE association, Abdelkader Hassini, said that "Morocco is full of skills abroad. Those who are native to the Oriental say they are ready to contribute to the success of the NMD," he stressed, adding that "they wish to be more involved in propelling the growth mechanisms as they are equipped to do so".
