Organ Trafficking Ring Busted in Morocco After Facebook Sting Operation

In Casablanca, four individuals, including three women, were brought before the courts for their alleged links to a criminal network active in human organ and drug trafficking.

According to the DGSN, these suspects were arrested by the national office for the fight against illegal immigration, under the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ) following an alert on social networks. The announcement published on Facebook offered services for the removal of human organs, specifically kidneys, in private clinics located abroad, for large sums of money in foreign currency, a statement said.

The searches and investigations led to the arrest of the four individuals, but also to the identification of two of the victims who had sold their kidneys in Turkey for foreign currency.

Significant sums of money in national currency and foreign currency suspected of being the source of these activities were also seized, as well as foreign transfer receipts, analyses of the blood groups of a number of potential victims, quantities of cannabis and mobile phones that were submitted for the required technical expertise, the same source said.

The accused were placed in custody for the investigation ordered by the competent prosecutor’s office, while the search and coordination operations with the Interpol office in Ankara, Turkey, continue to apprehend all the Moroccan and foreign accomplices involved in these acts.
