Morocco Invests $320 Million in Major Urban Bus Fleet Expansion

The beneficiary cities are Agadir, Marrakech, Tangier, Fez, Benslimane and Tetouan. The call for tenders was launched by three local development companies (SDL). The SDL for urban mobility in Agadir and Benslimane is taking four lots of the contract for the purchase of 274 new buses for a total amount of 744 million dirhams, reports Barlamane.

Marrakech Mobility, in charge of the mobility of Marrakech and Fez, has five lots for the purchase of 567 buses for an estimated cost of 1.42 billion dirhams. As for the Tanja Mobilité company, it oversees five lots for the purchase of 476 buses for a total amount of 1.12 billion dirhams, on behalf of the inter-municipal groups "Bouregreg" and "North-West".

The project "is part of the Moroccan authorities’ desire to strengthen transport infrastructure and improve public services in the major cities of the kingdom. It also contributes to the ecological transition and the reduction of the carbon footprint of urban transport," said Minister Abdessamad Kayouh during a parliamentary session.
